Prof. Yuji Matsumoto

Tohoku University, Japan

He is a pioneering researcher in natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, and artificial intelligence. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in information science from Kyoto University and later completed his Ph.D. in Engineering at the same institution in 1990.

His early career included roles as a visiting professor at Imperial College London, Deputy Chief at Japan’s Institute of New Generation Computer Technology, and an associate professor at Kyoto University. In 1993, Matsumoto joined the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) as a professor, where he guided highly influential research for nearly three decades. Today, he serves as an Academic Researcher at Tohoku University’s Center for Language AI Research and as a Team Leader at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project.

He is best known for his foundational contributions to Japanese morphological analysis and dependency parsing. His most heavily cited work involves applying conditional random fields and support vector machines to text chunking, which laid the groundwork for modern Japanese NLP parsing tools. In recognition of his extensive impact on the field, Matsumoto was named a Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) in 2011.

Prof. Ken Satoh

Center for Juris-Informatics, Japan

He is currently serving as the Director of the Center for Juris-informatics. Based at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo, Japan, he is a pioneering figure in the emerging field of juris-informatics, which aims to amalgamate computer science with legal studies.

His research explores the logical foundations of artificial intelligence and its application to law, focusing on areas such as nonmonotonic reasoning, logic programming, case-based reasoning, and multi-agent systems. His work frequently tackles the complexities of legal reasoning, including statutory interpretation, legal debugging, and compliance checking using advanced machine learning and large language models (LLMs).

A recognized leader in his discipline, he is heavily involved in the academic community, serving on the steering committee for the International Workshop on Juris-informatics (JURISIN) since its inception in 2007, up through 2026. He is also a key organizer and contributor to the Competition on Legal Information Extraction and Entailment (COLIEE), significantly advancing global efforts to automate legal text processing, case law retrieval, and rule revision through AI.

Prof. Amane Koizumi

Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan

He is Trustee for Research Strategy and Vice President of the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST).

With a background in medicine, physiology, and neuroscience, he has held research and academic positions at Keio University, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, the National Institute for Physiological Sciences, and the National Institutes of Natural Sciences.

His current work focuses on research strategy, science policy, research evaluation, science communication, and the future of research and higher education in the age of AI. At JAIST, he is promoting Human Wisdom Science as an interdisciplinary framework for transforming knowledge into societal value through responsible judgment and action.

Prof. Eita Nakamura

Kyushu University, Japan

He is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering at Kyushu University, where he is affiliated with the Intelligent Control and Engineering (ICE) Laboratory.

His research sits at the intersection of mathematical modeling, machine learning, and music information processing. He explores how computational frameworks and statistical physics can decode cognitive and cultural phenomena, focusing heavily on the evolution of music, cultural dynamics, and statistical learning. Within music informatics, his work spans automated music transcription, piano fingering optimization, symbolic music alignment, automatic music generation, and interactive accompaniment systems like the Eurydice project.

By applying rigorous quantitative methods to artistic domains, his research bridges artificial intelligence and musicology, investigating both the mathematical principles behind human musical creativity and how music styles dynamically change and transmit over time.

Prof. Jean-Yves Marion

Loria University, France

He is currently the Head of LORIA (the computer science laboratory of the University of Lorraine) and a Full Professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Nancy (ENSMN), a position he has held since 2002. He is also a co-founder of the High Security Lab (LHS) and a member of the prestigious Institut Universitaire de France (IUF).

Before stepping into these leadership roles, he built a strong foundation in theoretical computer science. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Paris 7 University in 1991 and completed post-doctoral research at Indiana University (1992–1993). He then served as an Assistant Professor at Nancy 2 University from 1995 to 2002, earning his Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in 2000.

In his research, he focuses on cybersecurity, computational complexity, and formal methods. He is best known for pioneering “morphological analysis”—an innovative technique that utilizes control flow graphs and graph rewriting to detect malware and analyze binary code similarities. Through tools like Gorille, his work bridges theoretical computer science and practical security engineering, significantly advancing the fields of automated threat detection and reverse engineering.
